Membership

We are a self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operative for those who are retired or semi-retired, providing opportunities for our members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

Our annual Membership Fee for August 2025 to July 2026 remains at £15.

New Members need to complete an application form. Full details can be found at the bottom of this page,
Existing members can renew their membership either on-line with a bank transfer or debit /credit card or by sending a cheque by post. Details below:

To Renew Online

To renew on-line (only available to those members with an email) click this renew online link

Log on using your email and Beacon password (or if you have forgotten this or need to register press the appropriate button) and this will take you to the u3a Beacon administration system.

Select the option to renew your membership.

Enter your membership and payment details as requested on the screen.

Be aware that there is an option to pay using your credit or debit card instead of PayPal. For either, click on the “continue to PayPal to complete payment”

And you will then be taken to a page where you can then chose either to log in to PayPal or to use your credit/debit card.

It may look as if you are paying by PayPal but as long as you click the Pay as a Guest button you will be able to pay with your credit card even if you don’t have a PayPal account.

On successful completion a confirmation email will be sent to you that will include your membership that you can print or keep on your phone.

To Renew by Post 

To renew by post click here (or for pdf here) to download the renewal form. This was also sent out with the July Newsletter.

We are pleased to receive membership renewal payment by BACS. Account name: Saffron Walden u3a, Sort code: 60-18-10, Account: 16635175 with reference: Membership renewal.

However, if you use BACS as your payment method please complete a renewal form and send it to the membership secretary at: Saffron Walden u3a, PO Box 248, Saffron Walden, CB10 9EU.

If you wish to have membership card instead of an email copy please include a SAE. Alternatively come along to an Open Meeting and speak to the membership secretary.

New Members

New members are always welcome. As of July 2025 our membership stood at 809. For new members who want to join click here (or for pdf here) to print an application form.

New members can choose to pay by cheque or by bank transfer. Details are on the application form. If you pay by bank transfer you will still need to send your completed application form to our Membership Secretary.

Gift Aid.  If you are a tax payer we can claim back 25p for each £1 of your subscription from HMRC so it is a great help to us if members are able to tick the Gift Aid box on the application form or to complete this gift aid form – thank you).
