Theatre and Travel group - leader(s) urgently needed
Unfortunately for a variety of reasons, the current T&T group leaders are unable to continue running this successful group.
Therefore, the future of theatre and travel is uncertain unless others come forward to help lead the group.
Theatre and travel is vital to so many of our members. Do you have the time and enthusiasm to help our u3a continue with this very popular group?
Please come forward and volunteer. You will be supported and advised by the current T&T team and all the committee. If you could only arrange or even help with one or two outings it could save the group.
The trips currently being organised will still take place. However, no new ones are planned.
We need your help. Do not let this successful group fold.

Our next Open Meeting is on Monday 19th October 2026 and will be held at the Bowls Club in Abbey Lane.
Lucy Allen's talk, entitled “On the Buses”, promises to be a delightful Trip Down Memory Lane. Step back into the golden era of 1970s British comedy as Lucy shares her personal memories of the much-loved sitcom On the Buses.
Lucy’s father, Stuart Allen, was the Director and Producer of the first three series of the show, giving Lucy a front-row seat to the action.
The doors will open at 1.45pm, with refreshments from 2.00pm. The talk will begin at 2.30pm. Entrance is free, as are the refreshments and the raffle. Click here for more information.
Welcome to the Saffron Walden u3a website, where we hope you will find all you need to know about our organisation. We are proud to be the first u3a to be set up in Essex in 1984.
We are a self-help, self-managed, lifelong learning co-operative for those who are no longer in full-time employment, providing opportunities for our members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning, not for qualifications, but for fun. Hence the u3a motto "Learn, laugh and live".
Most of our 850 plus members reside in and around Saffron Walden, but new members are always welcome, See our Membership page for details about joining.
We currently run about 46 classes and activities and these are listed on our Groups page. Term times are similar to school terms, running from September to July but a number of groups meet throughout the year. We always welcome ideas for new groups and activites.
We hold Open Meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month with a guest speaker, and our Theatre and Travel group arrange a number of outings and holidays each year. Please see our What’s On page for future dates.
We produce our “UPDATE” magazine for members twice a year and a Newsletter each month to keep members abreast of current issues. Please see our latest Update, top right of this page, or visit our Publications page.
Unless you opt out, members will also receive the “u3a Matters” magazine by post 5 times a year, in February, April, June, September and November, from our parent organisation, Third Age Trust.
