Cost: this will be confirmed once class numbers have been finalized, but will be around £30 for the ten sessions, payable either as a single payment in September, or as two payments September and February. This covers the hire of the hall and refreshments.
Our second year of this highly enjoyable and sociable class, at a new venue and with many returning members. Class size is a maximum of 15 which actually means there are around a dozen of us each month, as other commitments coincide.
The structure of the class is for each member to bake at home, to the set monthly theme. No marks, no grading, no Star Bakers (no Paul Hollywood, sadly!), just the opportunity to bake an old favourite, or a new recipe, or try a completely new variation. We bring our baking to the class, display it on the communal table, have a hot drink then individually present our bakes to the group. This usually prompts a lively discussion, followed by the sampling of all the baking and exchange of recipes, with plenty of chat always included. Some months there will be a short presentation on a baking-related theme, given either by the group leader or a class member.
There are a few places available for September. If you are interested in joining this group then please email me (preferred method of contact) by clicking on my name in the blue box above.

Provisional Programme
Friday 18 September 2026: Let’s Do Lunch!
Our first meeting so it’s on with the kettle- and our name badges-and start to get to know your fellow members as we bring along something to share for a light lunch.
Friday 16 October 2026: Seasonal Baking
Autumn harvests- think vegetables as well as fruit. Sweet or savoury baking, maybe use grated vegetables in a cake?
Friday 20 November 2026: Baking from Childhood
Family favourites, baking that brings happy memories with it.
Friday 18 December 2026: Festive Baking
Not just Christmas (and mince pies) but other celebrations such as Hanukkah, Sinterklaas, New Year, Twelfth Night all have their symbolic baking traditions in December and early January.
Friday 15 January 2027: Oranges and Lemons say the Bells of St Clements
Seville oranges, juicy lemons, limes and grapefruit brighten up January. Most probably sweet as opposed to savoury baking,
Friday 19 February 2027: Free-From and Allergy Aware
Gluten-free, egg-free, lactose-free, dairy-restricted, no nuts or seeds etc – this month we need sweet or savoury baking that is delicious and enjoyed by those with restrictions and everyone else.
Friday 19 March 2027: Ingredient challenge
Take a maximum of FIVE ingredients (plus water and salt if needed) and create something irresistible!
Friday 16 April 2027: Pastry
Shortcrust, puff, flaky, choux, flan, filo, hot water, and all the lovely bakes they produce.. Don’t dismiss viewing an online tutorial if you are wanting to try something a bit different but are unsure of exactly how to do it, it can be very reassuring to see an accomplished baker show you the steps.
Friday 21 May 2027: Home is Where the Heart Is
Where do you call home? Is it where you were born, or raised, or have moved to? This month we are looking for regional baking that has a connection to somewhere special to you, whether that is in the UK or further afield. Tell us a bit about yourself by what you bring to share with the class, that represents you and the area you love.
Friday 18 June 2027: Party Time!
The last class of this session so let’s celebrate in style! Finger food, party savouries, gooey desserts, luscious cakes, absolutely anything you would like to share with your friends at the class. A fitting end to ten months of delicious food, some flops and failures, lots of inspiration and plenty of new ideas. I mention the flops and failures because we all do them- and life goes on-but we learn and grow and sometimes have a soggy bottom but it doesn’t matter! As long as we have Enjoyed Baking Again then we have succeeded!
